Calls mount to make child pregnancies reportable

GQEBERHA, EC - Children should look forward to bright futures and not have the burden of raising other children.

That's the assertion from the Eastern Cape Health Department after shocking revelations that 117 girls, aged between 10 and 14, gave birth in four months of this year.

Authorities say this not only puts the young mothers at risk, but places an extra burden on the healthcare sector.

Well a couple of years ago a social activist embarked on a campaign to make the pregnancies of minors a reportable incident.
