CAPE TOWN - It’s been a few weeks of suspensions, firings or placements on special leave.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has suspended the South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke, with immediate effect.
This is pending an inquiry into his fitness to hold office.
Chauke has been making decisions on prosecutions heard in the Johannesburg High Court but he’s been criticized for delays in high profile corruptions cases.
He’s been accused of receiving bribes and was named in BOSASA recordings where the late CEO Gavin Watson allegedly planned to lobby for his appointment as National Director of Public Prosecutions.
