JOHANNESBURG - A community in the Eastern Cape is in shock following two mass shootings on Friday night. 

Eighteen people from two homes on the same street were killed at a village in Lusikisiki in two shootings.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has offered his condolences to the families of the nearly 20 victims and the survivors.

The President says a team of specialist detectives and forensic science experts have been deployed to assist with the investigation.

The Eastern Cape has emerged as a hot spot for mass murders.

Over the past two years, nearly 40 people have been killed in mass shootings in the province.

Independent Researcher in Policing, Crime and Criminal Justice at the Institute for Security Studies, David Bruce and Dr Irvin Kinnes, Associate Professor of Criminology at the Cente of Criminology at UCT discussed this.
