JOHANNESBURG - The time to negotiate with criminals is over.
Joburg Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku says the newly-formed tactical reaction unit within the JMPD will not hesitate to shoot and kill criminals.
The unit will deal with violent crimes that have been plaguing the City of Johannesburg in recent years.
But anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee says the eye for an eye may not work so perfectly for them.
"You have to do it within the framework of the law," he said.
"The Criminal Procedure Act is very clear. Police officials or even members of the public who are armed can only defend themselves when their lives are in danger."
