PRETORIA - An inquiry by the Competition Commission has justified local news outlets' belief that Google, Meta and X are short-changing them.
The commission has recommended that Google pay between R 300 million and R500 million a year into a South African media fund for three to five years.

It has told YouTube to increase revenue share for local news media and broadcasters.
And Meta to tweak its algorithm to reprioritise South African news media links.
