Fear grips communities as mass shootings increase

JOHANNESBURG - Communities are once again living in fear following waves of deadly mass shootings.

Over the weekend, six people were gunned down in Reiger Park, Gauteng.

This comes after the execution-style killing of two cousins in Mamelodi, and the Westbury community is still mourning two teenagers killed in another recent shooting that left five others injured.

These attacks paint a deeply worrying picture of rising violent crime in townships.

Dr Ashwill Phillips, a criminology lecturer at the University of the Free State, discussed this with eNCA.
