JOHANNESBURG - August marks four years since the assassination of whistleblower Babita Deokaran.
She was gunned down in 2021 after exposing alleged tender corruption at Tembisa Hospital.
At the time, Deokaran was serving as acting Chief Financial Officer in the Gauteng Health Department.
Her killing sparked calls for stronger protection of whistleblowers.

Deokaran was shot multiple times outside her home after dropping her daughter at school.
She had raised the alarm over suspicious payments at Tembisa Hospital shortly before her death.
Six men have been convicted and sentenced to prison terms, but the masterminds remain at large.
