No peace yet: The long road to justice for Senzo Meyiwa

JOHANNESBURG - It’s beginning to feel like justice won’t be served. This is the sentiment of many South Africans after the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial was delayed once again.

The Bafana Bafana captain was shot and killed in Vosloorus in October 2014 in a crime that shocked the nation.

Since then, the search for truth and justice has become a very long and winding road.

The latest delay has reinforced public frustration over the pace of our justice system.

This is the view of eNCA viewers who participated in the South African Morning question on Tuesday. We asked: "What do you make of the pace of the wheels of justice in the Senzo Meyiwa matter?"

What was once a high-profile case gripping the nation has become, in the words of viewer @UnityInSA, “as slow as a car without wheels.

“I doubt the judge will see the end of the trial. He will probably go on retirement with the trial still in progress,” the comment read.

Another viewer @mzee_zn wrote: “It's beginning to feel like justice won't be served in this case. Honestly, I think most South Africans have lost all interest in this case. We are now waiting for the final verdict and I hope I'll still be alive to see it."

Others said they have no faith in the justice system.

"Our justice system is failing his family and the country as one for the truth. It always has new discoveries and gets more convoluted. I hope one day there will be a final judgment," @Gabojust wrote.

Another viewer put it plainly: "After watching this trial, I have no hope in the justice system of SA," wrote @Farha291.

With the 19th of May now marked on the calendar, the question remains: Will the cross-examination finally get underway?
