Substantial decline in public's trust in the police: Expert

 

 

JOHANNESBURG - Research specialist Steven Gordon says public trust in the South African Police Service has severely diminished over the past decade.

Gordon says in 2022 only 23 percent of the country's adult population trusted the police.
It is one of the lowest levels since the council started recording data of this kind in 1998.

"What we have seen occur over the last 10 years is a substantial decline in public trust in the South African Police Service," he said.

"Indeed in 2022, only 23 percent of the adult population of South Africa trusted SAPS, the lowest level since we started recording data of this kind in 1998."
