JOHANNESBURG - Evidence-based policing could be an effective way for police to combat crime.
The battle to reduce crime levels could be helped by police stepping outside their usual rules and regulations by involving communities and using scientific methods according to criminologist, Guy Lamb.

He said, "For large organisations such as the South African Police Service to change and evolve takes a lot of time and effort and it requires a commitment."
"What we are certainly seeing is a commitment from senior management to adopt some of the measures from evidence-based policing."
