Over R1.6bn needed for permanent housing

DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal’s Human Settlements Department says it needs over a billion rand to house flood victims in eThekwini permanently.

KZN MEC Siboniso Duma has laid out plans to tackle the housing backlog caused by climate disasters since 2022.

The province is also phasing out hotel stays, with a Transnet building in Durban now set to serve as a temporary shelter.
