The People's Court | Madlanga Commission | 16 September 2025

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s police service is facing one of its most serious credibility crises in recent memory.

Allegations of criminal syndicates operating within the SAPS - reaching into the highest ranks - have shaken public confidence in law enforcement and raised urgent questions about accountability and governance.

At the centre of this storm is the newly established Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, tasked with probing the depth and scale of corruption within the police.

The inquiry was set in motion after KZN Police boss, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi briefed the media in July, alleging that high-ranking officers - and even the Minister of Police himself - were entangled in corrupt networks.

  • On this episode of The People’s Court, we unpack the allegations, the stakes for the country’s justice system, and what this commission could mean for the future of policing and accountability in South Africa.
