JOHANNESBURG - Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Irvin Khoza has weighed in on concerns over overcrowding at Saturday’s Soweto Derby, suggesting that FNB Stadium could be part of the problem.
The comments come after Orlando Pirates secured a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in another highly anticipated clash between the two Soweto giants.
Addressing the concerns, Khoza questioned why similar overcrowding issues had not occurred during major matches hosted in Durban, including the Nedbank Cup final between Pirates and Chiefs.

He said certain stakeholders involved in hosting matches at FNB Stadium were failing to fulfil their responsibilities.
“We went to Durban for the final of Pirates and Chiefs in the Nedbank final. Nothing happened of the sort. Pirates and Sundowns, nothing of the sort happened. Why here?” Khoza said.
The PSL chairman added that he had requested a briefing for Thursday, warning that those responsible could be publicly named if the situation was not addressed.
“There are certain role players who are not playing their part, but I cannot name and shame them on television because I've asked for a briefing on Thursday to make sure that if they don't make up the act, we're going to name and shame them because they're letting us down.”
Khoza also suggested that the PSL could consider taking future high-profile matches away from FNB Stadium and hosting them in Durban instead.
“Maybe the future will be that instead of going to FNB Stadium, let's go to Durban. Because they are the good hosts, they do things professionally. All our events are seamless,” Khoza concluded.
