JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal Athletics said that they have formed a task team to look into the matter concerning the running of the 2027 Comrades Marathon.
The running of the 100th Comrades Marathon is under threat.
Athletics South Africa (ASA) released a statement that the race is not sanctioned after the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) voted earlier this month to cut ties with KwaZulu-Natal Athletics and Athletics South Africa.

About 79% of CMA members voted to run the race completely independently.
The CMA said that KZN Athletics and Athletics South Africa add minimal value to the ultra-marathon while taking significant revenue via race levies, license fees, and broadcast rights.
The association has also announced a date of 13 June 2027 to run the centenary race, which ASA declared void.
