Banyana book Morocco ticket, keep WC dream alive

JOHANNESBURG - Banyana Banyana have secured a place at the 16th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, early next year.

Banyana booked their place by defeating DR Congo Women 2-1 on aggregate, after Tuesday night’s clash ended 1-0 at Dobsonville.

Prolific Banyana forward, Thembi Kgatlana made her return to the fold in style, grabbing a last-gasp goal to hand her side a 1-0 win on the night.

South Africa came into the clash with an added advantage following a crucial 1-1 draw in Kinshasa last week.

Their spot at the 2026 Women’s Afcon boosts Banyana’s chances for a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Even though Banyana will be looking to win their second Afcon title next year, they know a semi-final finish will be enough to book a ticket to Brazil.
