JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana were dealt a blow in their quest to qualify for next year's FIFA World Cup. They've been docked three points for fielding an ineligible player.
Teboho Mokoena featured in South Africa's comfortable win over Lesotho in March. He was on a one-match suspension for accumulating two yellow cards.
His appearance meant SAFA breached article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and article 14 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Preliminary Competition Regulations.

SAFA have also been fined over R216 000, while Mokoena has been issued with a warning. SAFA can appeal the decision within 10 days.
The sanction brings Bafana level with Benin in Group C at 14 points. They face Zimbabwe and Rwanda in the final two matches.
