McKenzie demands report from SAFA over Bafana Bafana yellow card saga

JOHANNESBURG - Sport Minister Gayton McKenzie is demanding a detailed report from SAFA on the yellow card saga in the World Cup qualifiers.

They were docked three points for fielding an ineligible player.

Teboho Mokoena featured in South Africa's comfortable win over Lesotho in March. He was on a one-match suspension for accumulating two yellow cards.

His appearance meant SAFA breached article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and article 14 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Preliminary Competition Regulations.

SAFA was also fined over R216 000, while Mokoena has been issued with a warning.
