McKenzie urged to dissolve ASA board

JOHANNESBURG - The country’s state of athletics administration is in tatters.

This has led the Sport Portfolio Committee to deliver a damning verdict, recommending the dissolution of Athletics South Africa’s board.

The committee has written to Sport Minister Gayton McKenzie on this move.

It's concluded that the federation has failed in its fiduciary responsibilities and is no longer capable of safeguarding the interests of athletes.

The decision follows a series of governance lapses, financial concerns, and internal conflict.

Committee chairperson Joe McGluwa says Parliament has been patient with ASA for far too long, despite there being no meaningful resolution of its governance challenges.

The committee has given the Minister 14 working days to provide a written response outlining the actions to be taken to address this matter.
