Team SA storm to African record at World Champs

TOKYO - South Africa's mixed relay team has blitzed the African Record in the 4x400m race at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Gardeo Isaacs, Miranda Coetzee, Leendert Koekemoer and Zenéy Van Der Walt ran in a time of 3 minutes 11.16 seconds to qualify for Saturday afternoon's finals.

Running in lane 7, the quartet came into the event with a personal best of 3 minutes 13.12 seconds, which was also the South African record. 

Finishing third in Heat 1, they qualified sixth-fastest for this afternoon's final, which will be run at 4.40pm.
