Temba Bavuma makes TIME100 sports list

JOHANNESBURG - Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has been named by Time Magazine as one of TIME100's most influential people in sports for 2026.

The list which includes international sports stars such as LeBron James, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo was released earlier this month.

In it, Bavuma is described as someone who has always carried more than the weight of his shirt.

"As one of just a handful of Black South African cricketers, his successes were lauded as a turning point for the sport," read a short description on the specialist middle-order batter on the Time website.

Bavuma joins a growing list of South Africans who have been featured in the TIME100 Most Influential People list including Trevor Noah, Siya Kolisi, Nomzamo Mbatha and President Cyril Ramaphosa.
