JOHANNESBURG - Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has paid an emotional tribute to midfielder Jayden Adams following his death.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who could also play on the wing, was found dead at an apartment in Schotsche Kloof in his native Western Cape, just weeks after representing Bafana Bafana at the World Cup.
Cardoso reflected on the close bond they developed after Adams joined Sundowns, saying the midfielder quickly became part of the club's family and left a lasting impact on everyone.
"You smiled, you laughed, you enjoyed and became one of us. You never spoke much. You liked simple things. You liked that toothpick at the corner of your mouth, that look with socks and flip-flops, and the way you almost always bent your head when we interacted with you."
Cardoso described Adams as an intelligent and versatile player capable of excelling in several positions, adding:
"What a guy you were, special indeed. You made us play better. You made me a better coach through the football you helped us play. We will carry you in our hearts wherever we go."
The funeral service for Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi star player is expected to take place on 25 July in Stellenbosch.
