JOHANNESBURG - The President of ASA, James Moloi, was accused by some within ASA circles of having taken girlfriends abroad, wining and dining them on the company credit card.
The matter eventually reached Parliament and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) who instituted an investigation.
A report from audit firm Forvis Mazars painted a concerning picture.
The Nedbank company credit card used by Moloi had a R15,000 limit attached to it.
By the end of the 2023/24 financial year, that card had already been maxed out at R300,000 meaning that over R120,000 had been overspent.
The report states, for the period of January to April 2024, 177 transactions amounting to R139,000 were identified.
These were classified into different categories.
Athletics SA's Eastern Cape president Sicelo Thabethe highlighted inconsistencies in the administration and procedures of the suspension.
James Moloi's notice of misconduct dated 12 December 2025 was dismissed and his suspension was lifted with immediate effect as of 22 December.
