Bafana Bafana legend John Moeti dies aged 55

The renowned midfielder affectionately known as Dungi was battling an illness to which he succumbed on Monday.

JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates legend John Moeti has passed away at the age of 55.

The renowned midfielder affectionately known as Dungi was battling an illness to which he succumbed on Monday.

Moeti had been suffering from the illness for the past eight months, and was receiving specialist treatment until his passing.

The Soweto-born footballer rose to prominence in the early 1990s, playing for Dynamos FC, with the likes of Marks Maponyane.

He shot to greater stardom in the colours of Pirates, where he famously won the 1995 CAF Champions League.

Dungi, who represented South Africa 29 times at the senior level, was also part of the 1996 AFCON winning side.
