CAPE TOWN - The battle for the presidency of Western Province Rugby has intensified, with two familiar figures stepping into the ring.
Former president Zelt Marais is back in the spotlight, while Kevin Kiewitz is hoping to bring what he calls "integrity and unity" back to one of South Africa’s most iconic rugby brands.
Kiewitz is campaigning on a platform of rebuilding trust - calling for unity and warning of the dangers of political interference in rugby structures.
But standing in his way is a familiar face - Marais, who maintains he was wrongfully removed and has unfinished business.
Marais says the priority must now be restoring resources - particularly in schools and development structures that have suffered during years of instability.
With elections looming, Western Province Rugby is once again at a crossroads—where political infighting, community trust, and the future of the game all collide.
