CAPE TOWN - Champions Cup organisers continue to search for a working formula for the tournament.
The competition’s format is set to undergo restructuring for the third time in five seasons.
The competition will take a more traditional pool system after three terms with two pools of 12 teams.
This system replaced the long-standing format of five groups of four in 2020.
It will now comprise four pools of six teams, meaning the 24-team tournament will host eight teams from the three competing leagues -- United Rugby Championship, Top 14 and English Premiership.
Intra-games have been ruled out, meaning teams from the URC will not face each other.
Clubs in the same pool but not the same league will play each other once, home or away, depending on the draw.
The Stormers and the Bulls will fly the South African flag in the Champions Cup while the Sharks and Lions will participate in the second-tier Challenge Cup.
