JOHANNESBURG - Two-time Olympic champion Caster Semenya has slammed IOC President Kirsty Coventry over a decision to ban transgender women athletes.
The decision also restricts female athletes such as Semenya with medical conditions.
"It's nonsense for me," Semenya said.
"It's about women's integrity. As a woman, why would you be tested to prove that you're fit. It's like now we need to prove we are worthy as women to take part in sports. It's disrespect. Why would you allow women to take part in sports if you are going to question them," the long distance runner added.
The IOC announced this week that women’s sports would be limited to biological females, determined on the basis of a one‑time SRY gene screening, which would force DSD and transgender athletes to compete in the men’s division.
