JOHANNESBURG - The number of Comrades Marathon entrants who have posted a qualifying time has reached record highs.
95% of those who signed up for the 99th edition of the ultimate human race met the criteria.
With the 4 May deadline having passed for runners to submit their qualifying times, update their profiles, and complete the mandatory medical and transport questionnaires, 21,633 runners have qualified for the race.
Following the Substitution Process between March and April, 2,444 runners successfully obtained spots made available by the withdrawal of other runners.
The demand for entries saw the full quota of 22,000 available spots sell out in less than 10 hours when general entries opened in November.
The June 14 event is an Up Run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
