Four Chiefs players headline Bafana's preliminary World Cup squad

JOHANNESBURG - Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Belgian called up 32 players, including four goalkeepers, with Kaizer Chiefs' in-form shot-stopper Brandon Peterson getting the nod.

In defence, Amakhosi have two players in Thabiso Monyane and Bradley Cross, while Lebohang Maboe is Chiefs' fourth player.

Durban City midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel is rewarded for his good showing after playing a starring role in the Nedbank Cup success.

Patrick Maswanganyi and Iqraam Rayners earned recalls.

The squad will be trimmed to the 26 players allowed to travel to the tournament by FIFA.

The announcement for the final squad is set for the 27th of May at the Union Buildings alongside President Cyril Ramaphosa.
