Gautrain’s 50% discount for Soweto derby fans

JOHANNESBURG - The Gautrain has announced that commuters heading to the iconic Soweto derby between South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will get a 50% fare discount.

This discount effectively allows for a free return journey, provided passengers participate in the verified event transport system.

Supported by a dedicated event shuttle service, the Gautrain says it aims to provide a high-capacity, reliable, and congestion-free transport solution for the expected large crowds.

The initiative encourages the use of public transport, helping to reduce road congestion and ensuring that only ticketed spectators can access event transport services.

1. How the enhanced system works;

  1. 1.1.  Travel via Gautrain from any station to Park Station using the standard fare.
  2. 1.2.  At Park Station, present a valid match ticket for verification before accessing transport.
  3. 1.3.  Once verified, receive an official Gautrain Event Armband.
  4. 1.4.  Use the free shuttle bus from Park Station directly to FNB Stadium.
  5. 1.5.  After the match, return via shuttle to Park Station.
