OSTRAVA-VITKOVICE - It was a good evening on the track for the South African contingent at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic.
Akani Simbine won the 100 metres at the World Athletics Challenger Tour event, clocking 9.98 seconds.
On the women’s side, 2022 African Champs silver medallist Taylon Bieldt placed third in her event.
Bieldt was first going into the home straight of the 400m but dropped to third behind Britain’s Jessie Knight and local Nikoleta Jichova.
Bieldt clocked a time of 55.35 seconds.
Luxolo Adams posted a season’s best of 20.22 seconds as he raced to victory in the men's 200 metres.
Sinesipho Dambile made it a South African one-two in that event, finishing just ahead of third-placed Slovakian Jan Volko.
Former national 400m champion Zakithi Nene continued the good form from the Mzansi Challenge.
Nene posted a time of 45.22 seconds in the one-lapper, finishing behind the winner and world-lead, Muzala Samukonga of Zambia.
And African Champs silver medallist Ryan Mphahlele managed to finish second in the 1,500 metres.
Steeplechaser Lamecha Girma from Ethiopia powered his way to the first position.
