Indoor hockey event nears conclusion

CAPE TOWN - The Spar Indoor Hockey IPT is nearing its conclusion after kicking off with 20 games on Wednesday.

It's being hosted at the Wynberg Military Base and the University of Cape Town.

The Western Province men’s team looks on course to defend their title.

They remain at the top of the standings with three wins in as many matches.

Southern Gauteng and KZN Raiders are battling for second place in the Pool.

They are on equal points, although the Raiders have played one game more than Southern.

In the women’s section, defending champions, KZN Raiders suffered their first loss in 20 games.

Western Province delivered an exceptional performance, clinching a 2-1 victory over the Raiders to book a semi-final spot with North West ladies.

North West Women advanced to the playoffs for the first time with a 3-2 win against Mpumalanga in Pool B.

Pool A runners-up Raiders will face Pool B winners, Northern Blues in a bid for a spot in the final.
