LOS ANGELES - Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, has confirmed he will remain out of action for some time as he recovers from a hip injury.
The Spaniard confirmed on social media that he won't play in the Masters 1000 events at Indian Wells and Miami because of injury.
The 36-year-old has been out of action since losing in the second round of the Australian Open last month.
Indian Wells tournament Director Tommy Haas has wished Rafa continued healing and says it hopes to see him back at the event next year.
Nadal has been mostly limited to physio and gym work in recent weeks but was able to begin a gradual return to the court on Monday.
I am sad that I won’t be able to compete at Indian Wells nor Miami.

Very sad not to be there. I’ll miss all my US fans but I hope to see them later this year during the summer swing. pic.twitter.com/v6dsf1ayTI
