JOHANNESBURG - “South Africans must just wait”, the fighting words of SAFA President Danny Jordaan when quizzed about the saga involving the national head coach.
This comes after weeks of confusion and mixed messaging on coach Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana future.
“One thing I can say is that there is no such thing as SAFA signed a one-year contract with Broos,” Jordaan said.
“It doesn't exist. It's nonsense and it's better that this nonsense is not put out there.
There have been media reports that Broos has reportedly been given a one-year contract extension to stay on as Bafana Bafana coach for next year's Afcon.
There seems to be confusion regarding the Belgian-born coach's future in South Africa.
Broos had indicated that he planned to retire after guiding Bafana Bafana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, there is now uncertainty about whether he plans to continue leading Bafana or not.
eNCA's Thabiso Sithole's quest for clarity from SAFA was greeted by a fiery Jordaan.
“So I just came back yesterday and I saw what is this now? It's nonsense,” Jordaan said.
“There is a process. You cannot stop me in the street and hijack a decision. It's not going to happen.
Broos helped guide South Africa to back-to-back AFCON qualifications, a bronze medal at the 2023 tournament in the Ivory Coast, and the country's first-ever FIFA World Cup knock-out appearance at this past World Cup.
