Kenya's Kacheran banned for three years

JOHANNESBURG - Philemon Kacheran has become the 20th Kenyan athlete to be sanctioned this year.

The marathon runner received a three-year ban for testing positive for excess levels of testosterone.

The findings by the Athletics Integrity Unit see Kacheran entering a long list of Kenyans who’ve been on the wrong side of the AIU.

In July, the 30-year-old was initially suspended and left out of the Kenyan national marathon team which took part in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

His period of ineligibility is backdated to 8 July, the date of his provisional suspension.

He had faced a four-year ban but was granted a one-year reduction because of an early admission of guilt.
