Kodwa supports decision to withdraw Women's World Cup bid

JOHANNESBURG - Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa says government supports the South African Football Association's decision to withdraw from bidding to host the 2027 Fifa Women's World Cup.

Last week, Safa confirmed that they will not continue with the process, citing a time frame challenge to deliver a successful bid.

Kodwa re-iterated that it was not government's prerogative to finance sporting bids, but to provide guarantees as has been the case in the past.

The deadline for submitting comprehensive plans for the tournament is December 8 and South African officials believe it would be wiser to try and host the following edition in 2031.
