EAST LONDON - Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie, alongside Boxing South Africa are currently hosting a boxing convention in East London.
Boxing has been marred by out of the ring legal battles while also fighting maladministration which has had a negative impact on the sport.
eNCA reporter Ronald Masinda spoke with McKenzie at the convention where he spoke about the historical value of the sport and the theme of the convention.
McKenzie said, "I think everybody that loves boxing and knows boxing will agree that boxing in South Africa is in the ICU."
"This convention has been long coming. I know that during apartheid, boxing was the one sport that was something for leisure and entertainment for our people. I decided as the minister to bring everybody together: we have to talk to each other, we have to listen to each other."
