A star-studded field is expected for this year’s Midmar Mile as the world’s largest Open Water Swimming event reaches a milestone.

DURBAN - A star-studded field is expected for this year’s Midmar Mile as the world’s largest Open Water Swimming event reaches a milestone.

This year will be the 50th edition of the famous race, with the Midmar Dam once again hosting it on 11 and 12 February.

According to organiser Wayne Ridden, the event will have Olympic champion Cheryl van Ondall coming from the Netherlands.

Past winner Michelle Webb will also be present.

He goes on to say that three previous winners -- Trevor Strydom, Owen Ryan and Paul Blackbeard -- will also be joining.

"We couldn't have asked for anything better and there is confirmation that Sam Rapp will be there, so I am really thrilled about that," Ridden said.
