New bonus structure proposed for Bafana Bafana

JOHANNESBURG - Bonuses for Bafana and Banyana players are set to be drastically reduced under a proposed new payout structure.

The Sowetan reports that the new system will see players receive between 20 and 45 percent of tournament prize money, depending on how far the team progresses.

Documents prepared for last weekend’s aborted SAFA national executive committee meeting reveal how the change could hit earnings.

When Bafana finished third at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, players and staff shared R40 million of the R47-million prize money.

Under the proposed model, that payout would drop to just under R21-million, about 44 percent of the winnings.

The potential shake-up comes as Bafana prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while Banyana gear up for the upcoming Women's Africa Cup of Nations.
