JOHANNESBURG - Bags are packed, flights and accommodation's booked and goodbyes have been said, but the Bafana Bafana is going nowhere, at least not yet.
SAFA has confirmed that despite the 26-man squad being expected to travel to Mexico on Sunday, they are still on home shores due to Visa issues.
According to the South African Football Association, they have "experienced challenges regarding Visas for some players and officials".
In a statement, SAFA said they were working around the clock to ensure that the team travels to Mexico City as soon as possible.
"We remain committed to ensuring that the team’s preparations for the tournament remain on track and in the meantime, Bafana Bafana will continue to train in Johannesburg until departure.
"SAFA will have an Emergency Committee Meeting this evening (Sunday, 31 May 2026) and a further update will be communicated to the nation after its conclusion," the statement reads in part.
It is also still unclear when the documentation issue will be sorted. The team's expected to play the global tournament's opening match against the hosts Mexico at the Estadio Azteca on June 11.
Teams generally need at least two weeks to acclimate in a foreign country before matchday.
This is a developing story.
