Pirates not ready to surrender league title

JOHANNESBURG - After securing their first league title in thirteen years, Orlando Pirates are now eyeing the CAF Champions League.

But first on the agenda is the MTN8, a competition the Buccaneers have dominated.

The Buccaneers are just three matches from continuing that stronghold.

"This season again, we want to win the league. It will not be easy, but we are doing everything to win it and to go win the champion's league," Abdeslam Ouaddou, Pirates head coach said.

"If you come here and you play small, and you protect yourself, what are you going to protect anyway? You need to be ambitious with your players and give them hope."

However, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is eyeing the very same competition which has eluded his side for a number of seasons.

"The trophy has not been a regular at Chloorkop, but we value it. There’s no reason for us to undermine the competition,” Cardoso said, before noting the congested fixture list ahead.

“Obviously, we must take note of the fact that we play AmaZulu on Wednesday. After the second leg, we have a midweek match. Whatever lineup we field against Golden Arrows has nothing to do with not valuing the trophy, the sponsor, or the competition."

But both Sundowns and Pirates must first negotiate past tricky fixtures against Golden Arrows as well as Sekhukhune United respectively.
