Proteas Women crush Netherlands to keep semi-final hopes alive

JOHANNESBURG - The Proteas Women will need a convincing win over Bangladesh in their final Group One clash to strengthen their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

South Africa remains third in the standings behind India, with Australia leading the group.

This despite an emphatic 88-run win over the Netherlands in Bristol last night.

Asked to bat first, Tazmin Brits starred with an unbeaten 114 from 69 balls, while skipper Laura Wolvaardt contributed 45 before falling to Hannah Landheer.

Annerie Dercksen added an unbeaten 37 as South Africa piled up 208 for one, becoming just the third team to pass the 200-run mark at this year's tournament.

The Dutch never threatened the target and slumped to 120 for eight, handing the Proteas a valuable boost to their net run rate ahead of the decisive clash with Bangladesh.
