Records tumble at SA Aquatic Championships

GQEBERHA - The second night of the SA National Aquatics Championships saw records tumble.

Chad le Clos once again came out victorious in the 200m Butterfly, bagging his 13th national title.

It wasn't smooth sailing for the South African great as he was challenged by 19-year-old Ethan du Preez.

Le Clos clocked a time of 1:56.05 for victory

Rebecca Meder (20) was her own rival in the 200m individual medley.

She bettered her SA record set at last year’s Commonwealth Games to claim the title in 2:11.39.

That saw her dip below the qualifying time for the Swimming World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan in July.

Another record breaker was Olivia Nel, who took the honours in the 50m backstroke, adding to her success in the 100m backstroke.

Nel (20) smashed a 14-year record set by Chanelle van Wyk.

She touched the wall in 28.39 seconds, shaving off 0.16 seconds from Van Wyk's time.
