SA secures title despite setback

BORDEAUX - France Men’s team sealed a home title victory after seeing off the Blitzboks in the semi-finals in Bordeaux on Sunday.

The local favourites saw off South Africa Men’s Sevens 21-12 in the cup semis to book a final showdown with New Zealand.

After leading 7-5 at the break, France scored and converted another try in the second half to complete a 14-5 win and lift the Bordeaux title in front of home fans.

Australia Women also claimed victory in Bordeaux to crown a vintage World Championship-winning year, while South Africa's Blitzboks lifted the Championship title for back-to-back wins.

South African duo Shilton van Wyk and Tristan Leyds made the men’s 2026 Dream Team, while Leyds went on to clinch player of the year.
