SUN CITY - Sprinter Akani Simbine bagged the top prize at the 2026 SA Sport Awards, while swimming sensation Pieter Coetze also earned deserved recognition.
The 19th edition of the SA Sports Awards was held at Sun City on Sunday night, honouring the country’s top athletes, coaches, administrators and federations.
Simbine was named Sport Star of the Year, beating Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx, and Proteas captain Temba Bavuma.

Prudence Sekgodiso claimed the Sportswoman of the Year award, while Coetze was named Sportsman of the Year.
The Proteas Test side won Team of the Year after clinching their maiden ICC World Test Championship title in 2025.
Meanwhile, Thabo Matebedi was named Coach of the Year for his impact in athletics.
