Springbok Sevens squeeze into cup quarterfinals

LOS ANGELES - The Springbok Sevens sneaked into the Los Angeles Sevens despite losing to Ireland in their final Pool B match.

The Blitzboks needed a miracle to advance in the US after two defeats.

After seeing off Canada 12-0 in their pool opener, Sandile Ngcobo’s men went on to lose to Uruguay.

Ronald Brown scored the only try as they lost 10-5.

They then took on Ireland and was once again defeated as Dylan O'Grady and Harry McNulty’s tries ensured a 14-5 win for the Irish.

South Africa advance with a better point difference after Canada defeated Uruguay 26-10 in their last match.

Ngcobo’s charges will take on Fiji at 8.45 tonight, South African time.
