Sprinter Walaza misses World Athletics Championships in Tokyo

JOHANNESBURG - South African sprinter Bayanda Walaza has been withdrawn from Team SA, ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Athletics SA has opted to drop the 19-year-old over hamstring injury fears.

Following a comprehensive medical evaluation, ASA has determined that his hamstring injury will prevent him from participating in the Championships.

He sustained it during his race at the Diamond League Final in Zurich last month.

Walaza will be replaced by Retshidisitswe Mlenga, at the Championships scheduled to run from 13–21 September.
