JOHANNESBURG - TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa (TGRSA) heads to Killarney International Raceway this weekend for Round 6 of the 2026 GR Cup and South African Touring Cars (SATC) championships.
The 18–19 September meeting is the penultimate round of the season, with several championship battles still finely poised.
Abdool remains unbeaten
SuperSport’s Nabil Abdool arrives with a perfect record in the GR Cup Media Challenge, having won all 10 races this season.
He leads the standings on 70 points, ahead of News24 Motoring’s Craig Nicholson on 48. eNCA’s Justin Ford and AutoTrader’s Tayedza Mbiri share third on 25 points.
Gangiah takes the Hot Seat
The weekend will also mark the second appearance of the GR Cup Hot Seat, TGRSA’s initiative giving media personalities the chance to experience competitive racing.
Broadcaster Kriya Gangiah will drive the GR Yaris AT at Killarney, following Yolanda “Girlie” Lukhele’s successful debut at Zwartkops in May, where she claimed two third-place finishes.
Gangiah, who regularly discusses motorsport on air, says getting behind the wheel will offer a completely different perspective.
“I always get the opportunity to talk about racing and understand the theory behind it. Now I finally get to put that theory into practice.”
Her goal for the weekend is straightforward: “keep it on the black stuff”.
Titles go down to the wire
The GR Cup Dealer Challenge will feature a reduced six-car field, with championship leader Werner Venter holding a two-point advantage over GR Driving Academy’s Devon Scott, who will miss the round.
The GR86 Development Academy title is even tighter, with Kobus Reyneke leading Connor Weston by just three points, 52–49, with only Killarney and the Zwartkops finale remaining.
TGRSA also heads into the SATC round in strong form. Jason Coetzee won Race 2 at Aldo Scribante after starting fifth, while teammate Michael van Rooyen finished fourth in both races.
Julian van der Watt leads the SATC championship on 125 points, with Klayden “KC” Ensor-Smith second on 101. Coetzee is third on 93, just ahead of Van Rooyen on 91.
