JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s Zakithi Nene walked away with a bronze medal as Akani Simbine fell short at the World Athletics Continental tour, in Budapest on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Simbine struggled in the men’s 100m race, settling for a share of fourth place after Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme won with a sub-10 finish.
Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu was second ahead of Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake.
Morocco’s Yassine Hssine came through in the closing stages to win the men’s 200m in 19.92.
The victory also marks his fifth Moroccan record over the distance in 2026.
Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charamba was second ahead of Nigeria’s Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike.
Nene was the only South African to medal, after he settled for a bronze in the men’s 400m.
Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga clinched victory by beating Hungary’s Attila Molnár.
New world record holder Ja’Kobe Tharp has recorded his maiden win on the professional circuit.
Tharp blitzed to 12.85 in Budapest, the second-fastest time in the world this year behind his own world record.
He shocked the track and field world last month by breaking the long-standing world record with a 12.75 run in the NCAA collegiate championships heats.
