JOHANNESBURG - South Africans have been mesmerised by the Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana affair.
Some see it as a tragic love story or even a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde.
But forensic investigator Chad Thomas says theirs is a union of two like-minded criminals.
He says had they not been exposed, they would have continued their deceitful life.
"In an instance like this, there's no tragic love story, this isn't star-crossed lovers, it's not Romeo and Juliet.

"This is a case of two people that were clearly deviant and managed to find one another, and have abused the system for as much as they possibly could have, and for as long as they could have," Thomas said.
"And if it wasn't for groundbreaking media reports, especially by GroundUp, for all intent and purposes, they would still be living the high life five, six, seven-star luxury out of a mansion in Hyde Park."
