DIEPKLOOF - Calm has returned to Diepkloof in Soweto after electricity was restored.
The community has also raised concerns over a lack of communication from authorities during the outage that lasted a week.
Some residents suspect there could be more to the situation.
Community leader Sibongiseni Khoza said there may be sabotage at play.
"The truth is, if Eskom were to decide to cut off our electricity due to non-payment, we can’t dispute that.
However, we'd appreciate that if Eskom does not receive payment, then they should switch off the whole of South Africa.
“However, if it's related to hostels in general, then I believe it is sabotage. There must be someone being sabotaged here. So far, the MMC is the only person who has regard for hostels. I think there must be someone fighting him; they need to tell us who they're fighting and not get us involved."
